Unfortunately, one cannot put a ballpark figure on what is the cheapest rent in Ghana. It completely depends on the location of the house, if there is easy access to amenities, and if it is in a commercial place. How Did Affordable Housing in Ghana Start?

The government started building affordable housing for the public in major cities as far back as 1957 under President Kwame Nkrumah. However, it was not until the 1960s after the establishment of the State Housing Corporation (SHC) that major strides were made. Low-cost housing projects were built in suburban areas, and they were properly maintained. Unfortunately, the 1980s brought the implementation of the Structural Adjustment Programme (SAP) which subscribed to the participation of the private sector in the provision of services such as housing. This led to the emergence of a public-private partnership with the Ghanaian government providing the enabling environment for private sectors to provide affordable housing in Ghana.
